Just a little bit about me.
I suppose you could say I was born to create art. Even as a little girl I would sit at the families’ kitchen table and draw for hours at a time. At school Art was the only subject I truly excelled in. Being academic was not really my thing. I was rather a dreamy child who would float off into the other reality or imaginings at any given time, which earned me the name given to me by my Grade 4 teacher, of “Snoozy”.
I always dreamt that Art was going to be my career, but I never quite knew how that would eventuate. After a year studying Graphic Art at Swinburne University, I decided that field of Art was not for me. Back in those days, there was not a lot of choice in Art based careers. So I gave up on my dream and settled for a clerical position. I married and had my little family. Full time Mum was very fulfilling but I always kept creating art in some form or another.
It was a very pleasant surprise years later to find that now my children are all grown up and I am in my 50’s that the door has once more opened up to my old dream of having a career around my art. I launched my business Susan Farrell Art back in 2010 and was constantly being asked if I would consider teaching. This was something I had never thought about doing but finally I decided to give it a go, with my first workshop late 2010.
Since then, teaching has become my passion. Over the years I have experimented and played and also done lots of other teacher’s workshops. With all my years of experience to draw from I have developed techniques that make it easy to create beautiful paintings. Even for Students who are complete Beginners.
I absolutely love watching my Students evolve through the process. At the end of a workshop they are ecstatic with the result. A gorgeous painting that they created themselves. Many have said they never dreamed it was possible.
Teaching has helped me discover that there is a need for a more holistic approach to the creative process. There are so many wonderful souls out there who would love to paint but they really believe they can’t.
This is the reason I believe I have been gifted my abilities and destined to teach, inspiring those people to actually take their first steps on the path to creativity!
